GTB$Y starts us off easy with a selective blend of hip hop, trap and RNB, which we appreciate due to the imminent turn up ahead – Breaking in with tracks such as Not Nice by PARTYNEXTDOOR and Crazy by Kehlani, right now we’re chillin’, but we up.
From here out it’s a rolodex of the best, Rihanna is an omen for what’s to come, Drake’s track ‘Hype’ mixed SEAMLESSLY into ’3 way’ (Migos) at roughly 13 minutes brings energy up 100% and asses hit the floor. By 16 minutes in it’s well established that this mix is going to be studded with hip hop royalty and the energy felt through GTB$Y’s mixing is boundless; especially during the standout center of the mixtape with echoes, key matching and an ability to blend tracks together. It’s sexy and grimey with ‘dance up on each other’ feelings but still turnt and trappy with the use of bells, hype vocals, 808 etc. By the mood of the mixtape, track and artist choices it’s an empowering experience for the listener.
Taken to the grave by the beat (and Beyonce twirling on her haters) and then resurrected by Drakes ‘For Free’ verse, we are nearing the end of the mixtape. The attitude is phasing out with ‘Didn’t you know that I was a savage’ and the trapping is in full effect with ‘Timmy Turner’ (Desiigner) mixed to it’s peak, held there and then – by far the standout moment of the mixtape – it’s lunged into ‘New Level’ (A$AP Ferg) and the hype can’t be overstated.
You feel elated.
This mixtape is a true full circle, bringing it home with ‘No Problem’ (Chance the Rapper) and ‘Solo’ (Frank Ocean) it’s truly complete, we are back to a similar energy level as the first track and definitely satisfied.
